Resting on top of the registers was a pastry case with goodies including muffins, scones, cookies, and giant cinnamon rolls. Just below the pastry case was a refrigerated display case including drinks such as Nantucket Nectars and Maine Root fair trade sodas. What I Had: I purchased two drinks. The first was a medium-sized 16 oz. Blue Moon Blend coffee. The coffee was dark in comparison to most house blends. Its flavor profile was also more intricate.
It had a sweet, florally, and roasty aroma, medium body with a smooth but lingering effect, biting acidity on the back of the tongue, and flavors of cocoa, roasty sweet buttery caramel, and slight orange-tangerine. I also had a cafe mocha. Phoenix's mochas, unlike many cafes, use Toddy--a cold water brewed coffee concentrate--instead of espresso. The result is a chocolatey coffee drink with less of a bite. It was smooth, light and creamy like milk chocolate rather than deep and edgy like mochas made with espresso.
No comments:. Newer Post Older Post Home. I have been working nearby for the past three years and it has become my go-to coffee shop. I have spent many hours at Phoenix working on projects, meeting up with friends to chat, and enjoying the coffee and baked treats.
This place has never left me unsatisfied. It starts with the atmosphere. As you walk towards the doors of the Phoenix you are greeted by large wooden benches and tables outside that look like they are made of upcycled pallets. They have a nice sense of movement and flow and provide the perfect place to sit outside on a nice day.
Next you see the colorful linework mural on the window and their simple but beautiful logo of a phoenix bird. There are people working at their computers, people sitting together chatting, and people sitting around reading They have free wifi so this is a very ideal place to work on your homework, projects, research, etc. Next, as you look to the back wall you will find there is always an art show hanging from a local artist.
Each month they rotate different artists. The work ranges from tiny cartoon drawings to photography to larger format paintings. They always keep the art fresh and interesting! Their design and aesthetic is superb! It is simple, clean and sophisticated. They also have a book drive going on at all times. There is a large box to drop book donations in right before you get to the counter. They are very supportive of the community too. They do open mic nights and they have a bulletin board and table filled with local event cards, fliers, business cards and more!
The people that run this place are a special breed of kind and supportive coffee lovers.
