What would I recommend to those getting started? Be professional throughout the process, from applying for an extra role to being on set to following up afterwards. Take it seriously.

Do what they ask you to do. Stop talking on set when they ask you to be quiet. Most background artist LOVE to talk. Networking is one of the perks of this job. Whispering escalates to chatter and frequently laughter very quickly. Be respectful of the people around you.
