Detroit milner
Hodges Realty owned the hotel until , when it was sold to Milner Hotels, Inc. The Milner Hotel is a nine-story brick building on a rusticated base.
The building conforms with the triangular shape of its site, resulting is a very narrow west end. Irregular massing due to the banks of bay windows add architectural interest to the building; the six-story bays rising from the second story are supported on large brackets extending to the first story. Store Windows and projecting entrance add diversity in massing on the first story.
Patrons could buy lunch, afternoon tea, and formal dinner on Saturday. Grinnell Brothers music store supplied pianos, allowing guests to enjoy music from well-known operas while they dined.
In , the store was the first retailer to initiate time-payment sales, or layaway, on all general merchandise, with the sales financed through the Morris Plan Bank. They were the first Detroit retailer to use gasoline powered delivery vehicles rather than horse drawn wagons, and also pioneered a charge-plate system, an early version of credit cards, and a cycle billing program.
By the early s there were over 10 branches around Metro Detroit. And nothing so bad has happened to prevent me from returning. The only thing I like about the hotel is the location. I was not happy the wall unit ac. The furniture looked like they picked it from a garbage pile. The complimentary breakfast was not good.
I would only recommend the cereal. Also we booked a queen bed and got a full. Don't think this hotel could find a queen when garbage picking. That bed definetly wasnt a queen. Close to Comerica Pk, quaint, air conditioning worked, comfortable, continental breakfast. Our coffee pot wasdirty-nevercleaned-black coffee burned to bottom of pot!
The young lady at the front desk was a delight. Her name is Angelica. Great price and location if you are going to a baseball or football game. The location is the best atractive for this hotel.
Really close to the people mover a kind of metro that runs in a circle around downtown. The Staff was very prestative and helped with everything. I liked the fact they offered us early check in.
The room and furniture it's a little bit old, but if you want a place to sleep to walk around the city, it's worthing for the money for sure. The breakfast was ok.
The hotel staff were very friendly and the rooms were clean and quiet. We went to two Tiger Baseball gamesit was convenient for this. Needs new mattresses. Location to Ball Park and Greektown. Carpet in room was never cleaned. The view out our room was great!!!! We couldn't have asked for a better view of Comerica Park. We had went to the ballgame and then back to our room in time to see the fireworks. Detroit hotels Hotels Resorts Cabins Holiday homes.
