Cleveland velodrome length
Since opening in , our operations have been run by an all volunteer staff. Beginning in , we have had paid staff who along with our dedicated volunteers will provide our programs as follows:.
Before we selected the Slavic Village site, the Board carefully considered and evaluated all available alternatives including, but not limited to existing indoor warehouses, suburban vacant land, and urban vacant sites. Our site selection process was methodical and exhaustive as we evaluated sites in Cuyahoga, Summit, Geauga, Lorain and Lake counties.
Ultimately we selected the 8. Moreover, the residents, business owners, Slavic Village Development Corp, Cleveland City Council members Phyllis Cleveland and Tony Brancatelli and the City of Cleveland have embraced the project and all have been extremely supportive.
The Phase 1 track is an outdoor meter velodrome cycling track with a steel substructure and wood surface. Since opening the track we have seen significant growth in our youth and adult programming. Phase 1 will serve as a platform for future phases — which would include the development of an indoor cycling and recreational facility.
There are food and beverage available plus a race program to keep the spectators informed. Enjoying our sixth year, our race series continues to grow in terms of race participants and spectators.
The races are sanctioned by USA Cycling and a license is required for racers. All racers who have not previously raced at our track should contact our race director for approval and to be placed in an appropriate field. Race Scoring: Races will be scored as an omnium. A track bikes has no mechanical brakes, one gear, and no freewheel. Consequently, there is no coasting, since if the back wheel is turning the pedals are turning.
The bottom bracket is higher and the cranks are shorter than a normal bike. Due to the steep embankment of the track, riding on the velodrome with a road bike or street bike is not safe and therefore, is not allowed. If you own your own track bike, you are welcome to use it, but please have it approved by the velodrome volunteers prior to taking it on the track.
We have a fleet of 35 bikes that are free for Track and available otherwise when you buy a Paid Class or Open Riding session. If you are a rider with experience at another velodrome please contact us and we will help welcome you into the appropriate sessions from our classes and structured training.
